July Summer Reading Programs Kick-Off With Butterfly Gardening And More, July 4—8

We finished one month of Oceans of Possibilities, and we are on to the next one!
This week, there are trackable sea turtle bracelet crafts at Five Points West Regional Branch Library and East Ensley Branch Library. Woodlawn Branch Library is also hosting a butterfly and hummingbird garden presentation.
It's not too late to be a part of our summer reading program! Visit any Birmingham Public Library (BPL) location to register your summer reading goals and pick up a bingo card.Attend one of these upcoming summer reading programs to make some progress on that bingo card!

Summer Movie Screening
West End Branch Library | 1348 Tuscaloosa Ave SW
Starts at 10:00 a.m. and at 1:00 p.m.
West End Library is showing two different movie screenings. In the morning, young patrons can watch the SpongeBob movie, and snacks are provided. That afternoon there is a special film screening for teens at 1:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.

Butterfly and Hummingbird Gardening

Ms. Charlene Chaband, a volunteer at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, will present information about creating gardens that attract butterflies and hummingbirds.

What's happening under the sea? In this engaging program, you'll learn about waves, currents, mysterious ocean creatures, and more. Find out how you can protect the world's biggest, most diverse ecosystem in the McWane Science Center's new oceanic adventure. Maximum of 30 participants.

Pirate Scavenger Hunt Fridays

Yo Ho and shiver me timbers, it's pirate scavenger hunt time! It's time to find the treasures of the ocean with a pirate scavenger hunt. Participants will explore the library to find the clues that lead to the treasure.
Tour De Route Springville!
Springville Road Regional Branch Library | 1224 Old Springville Rd
Starts at 2:00 p.m.
Springville Road's Youth Department is in the second stage of their Tour De Route Springville! Participants are competing in the board game Flamme Rouge, recreating the actual Tour de France course. Each week follows a different stage while staff keeps track of placing. Join them on Fridays to watch the tournament and see who to see who will win the grand prize!

Starting next week, Alabama 4-H will join the BPL for animal presentations on aquatic environments! Thanks to the Birmingham Legion FC and the City of Birmingham Parks and Recreation Department for helping make Oceans of Possibilities possible.
