Aries Traits

Aries season is from Monday, March 21—Tuesday, April 19. These fire signs ignite the beginning of the new zodiac year.

They mark the beginning of Spring as the first cardinal sign of the zodiac. This position gives Aries their strong and trailblazing personalities.

Symbolic of the ram, Aries are known to be determined and enthusiastic. Some of their most positive traits are:

  • Passionate
  • Honest
  • Optimistic
These can manifest negatively as aggressive, moody, impatient, and impulsive.

Maya Angelou was born on April 4, 1928. I doubt that Maya Angelou needs any introduction, but Angelou was a world-famous poet, author, and activist.

She had a tumultuous childhood. When she was seven, her mother's boyfriend sexually assaulted her. He was killed a few days later after being released from jail. Angelou then believed that her words had the power to end lives and became mute for roughly six years.

Yet her words grew more powerful with age and skill. She served as the northern coordinator of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (a prominent organization in the Civil Rights Movement), has over 50 honorary degrees, and multiple awards to her name.

Phan Thi Kim Phúc

Phan Thi Kim Phúc was born on April 6, 1963. In 1972, photographer Nick Ut took a photo of a nine-year-old Vietnamese girl running away from a napalm attack, her bareback burning up from the chemical attack.

This was a photo of a young Kim Phúc. People dubbed her as the "Napalm Girl."

Kim Phúc turned her pain into a journey of forgiveness that she has spoken extensively about in multiple interviews.

Check out her memoir Fire Road from any member of the Jefferson County Library Cooperative (JCLC).

Beverly Cleary was born on April 12, 1916. She was a children's and young adults' author. 91 million copies of her books have sold worldwide since their publish date in 1950.

Cleary began writing for children after a couple of boys came into the library she worked at and asked for books written for "boys like them." This moment inspired her first children's book, Henry Huggins.

Her readers inspired many of her stories, incorporating elements that readers requested in their letters to her. Cleary created books for readers who wanted to see more stories reflect their situations and interests.

After a very long and prolific career, Cleary died on March 25, 2021, at 104 years old.

Have you read any of her books during your childhood?

Hans Christian Andersen

Hans Christian Andersen was born on April 2, 1805. Our oldest Aries on this list, Andersen is best known for his fairytales.

His fairytales inspired countless adaptations across many mediums, including ballets, plays, and films. Amongst the most well-known adaptations are Disney's The Little Mermaid (which bears the same name as the story) and Frozen, which is inspired by "The Snow Queen."

Despite being a classic fairytale, you might not recognize his original recordings compared to the fairytales we know today. Revisit one of these familiar fairytales by Hans Christian Andersen.
