Birmingham, Ala. - Have you ever been to a spoken word poetry slam? Join us at Cahaba Brewing Co. from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, for the Birmingham Public Library’s second Bards & Brews Poetry Slam of 2022.

The slam is limited to the first 10 poets to sign up on-site beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Cahaba Brewing, 4500 5th Avenue South. The poets will compete for $350 in cash prizes: $200 for the first-place winner, $100 for second place, and $50 for third-place finisher.

You must be 18 and older to enter and 21 or older to buy craft beer from Cahaba Brewing's tap room.  Cahaba Brewing is a Birmingham-based microbrewery founded by friends who have a love for craft beer. It is located inside the Historical Continental Gin Complex in East Avondale, and offers over 26 taps of special brews available only at Cahaba Brewing.

A poetry slam is a competition using elimination rounds in which individuals perform their own original poetry.  Judges give scores from 1 to 10, and the highest finishers advance to the next round. Attendees have the power to sway the judges' opinions by booing performances they do not like or cheering on their favorite poets.

If you miss this one, save the date for our next Bards & Brews Open Mic- Friday, May 6, at the Central Library. Stay tuned for details soon.
