Birmingham Public Library Hosting Spring Break Activities for Birmingham Students


BPL has fun activities for Birmingham students to enjoy during Spring Break. 

This week is Spring Break for Birmingham area students, and several Birmingham Public Library (BPL)  locations  are helping them have fun while off from school. 

 Here are just a few of the awesome fun events for kids and teens taking place between today, Monday, March 28, and Friday, April 1:

Central Library, 2100 Park Place

Friday, April 1
3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Open Lab

Our Central Library lab will be open for students to show off their creativity. Students will have access to either music lab equipment/programming or STEAM programming, including coding, circuits, 3D printing, or craft programs.

Spring Break Craft Break

School-aged children are invited to drop by West End Library between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to make a craft during Spring Break week. Try a different craft every day. A snack will be provided.

Create a Bookmark Contest

Five Points West Library Youth Department invites children in grades K-5 to drop by and get an early start on submitting their original bookmark design for the 2022 Children's Book Week theme "Where Do You Book! The 2022 Children's Book Week will take place during two dedicated weeks of celebration, May 2-8 and November 13-17, 2022. Winning  entries for each grade will be reproduced and available at the library for Children's Book Week. 

Pick up entry forms at Five Points West Library. Winners will be invited to an awards ceremony reception at Five Points West Library on May 4 at 4:30 p.m. Each winner will receive a gift card from Amazon and a set of 25 of their award-winning bookmarks. Children's Book Week is an annual celebration of books and the joy of reading by young people. Established in 1919, it is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the United States.

Five Points West Patron Appreciation Day

As part of our Spring Break activities, we are hosting a Five Points West Library Spring Patron Appreciation Day this Thursday.

Drop by our library between noon and 2:00 p.m. and enjoy free refreshments, crafts and games for kids of all ages while celebrating Spring Break. Refreshments will include popcorn, snow cones, cookies and other goodies. Join us for an afternoon of smiles, fun and fellowship.

Celebrate Spring With Zines

Hey parents looking for a fun activity showcasing what you love about spring to do with your kids? Try tending the garden, spring cleaning and blooming flowers by participating in North Birmingham Library's Celebrate Spring With Zines activity. Grab some paper, pens, and markers to make your very own tiny booklet at our zine-making station.

Shape Up Spring Break with Tangrams
Come learn about  tangrams and the wonderful shapes you can make. A Tangram is a puzzle made up of seven pieces, or tans, of various geometric shapes that a person can manipulate to form 18th Century China. People use tangrams for artwork, and teachers can use tangrams to teach geometry to students.
