Classic 1994 Iron Bowl Framed Drawing Among "A Novel Tasting" Silent Auction Items


"Prayer Warriors" was created by renowned Birmingham artist Steve Skipper and depicts Alabama and Auburn football players praying after the classic 1994 Iron Bowl at Legion Field  won by the Tide


Birmingham, Ala. - A framed drawing of a classic 1994 Iron Bowl scene of Alabama and Auburn football players praying together is among items being auctioned of at A Novel Tasting, the Birmingham Public Library's April 7 fundraiser.

This inaugural event being held between 6:00 and 8:30 p.m. at the Central Library will feature a tasting of craft beers, wine, and spirits. It features cryptic corks, a silent auction, a VIP reception, catered food and live music. 

"Prayer Warriors" was created by Steve Skipper, a Birmingham artist who has drawn historic paintings that have been sold across the globe. The painting that will be auctioned off is a print about 21 inches by 26 inches. It depicts players including Alabama quarterback Jay Barker and Auburn receiver Frank Sanders huddled together praying on their knees during the 1994 Iron Bowl.  
The painting is an artist proof Giclee Edition on paper, signed and numbered (#35 out of 950) by the artist Steve Skipper. It has authentic Alabama and Auburn Medallions, and is matted in a 36-by-32 inch frame. 

Alabama's 21-14 win over Auburn in the 1994 Iron Bowl, held Nov. 19, of that year at Birmingham's Legion Field, is considered one of the 10-best games of all times in the series. The No. 6 Auburn Tigers brought a 21-game unbeaten streak.  Led by quarterback Jay Barker, the 10-0 Crimson Tide jumped out to a 21-0 lead and held on to beat the Tigers in a classic contest.
