UPDATE: National Library Week 2022 Continues At The BPL

We're halfway through National Library Week, and the Birmingham Public Library (BPL) still has tons of events planned to celebrate libraries and their patrons!
Keep reading to see what programs are happening at the BPL.
The theme for National Library Week 2022 is "Connect With Your Library." The theme this year highlights how libraries connect people with technology, communities, ideas—as well as books.
- Monday, April 4: State of America's Library Reports released, including the Top 10 Frequently Challenged Books of 2021
- Tuesday, April 5: National Library Workers Day
- Wednesday, April 6: National Library Outreach Day
- Thursday, April 7: Take Action for Libraries Day (the same day as "A Novel Tasting")

On Tuesday morning, the BPL was invited to the Birmingham City Council meeting to receive a proclamation from Mayor Woodfin declaring National Library Week in Birmingham. Connect with Your Library during National Library Week by enjoying Avondale Library's drop-in/take-home coloring stations for patrons of all ages.

Open Music Lab
Wednesday, April 6 | From 10:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.
The Open Music Lab, located in the Teen Lab on the second floor, is where adult patrons can learn tracking, editing, and mixing basics on Pro Tools and Akai sequencing software for music and podcasting production.

Food Truck Roundup
Wednesday, April 6 | From 11:00 a.m.—2:00 p.m.
Food Truck Roundup is back! Join the Central Library to try Cake's Southern Fried Eats, Lemonade Junkeez, and Ways of Eating and Drinking (W.O.E.D.).
All proceeds are allocated to the 2021 Bookmobile Initiative.
A Novel Tasting
Thursday, April 7 | 6:00—8:30 p.m.
Support the Birmingham Public Library with a premier evening tasting wines, craft beers, and locally distilled spirits. There will be live music by Sol MĆŗsica, food provided by Catering by Kim, and tons of opportunities to win unique prizes.
Tickets are on sale now online and may be purchased at the door as well. This is a tax-deductible ticket purchase.

Create-A-Bookmark Contest
All month long | All day, 9:00 a.m.—6:00 p.m.
The Five Points West Youth Department invites children in grades K—5 to submit their original bookmark design for the 2022 theme "Where Do You Book?" Winning entries from each grade will be reproduced and available at the library for Children's Book Week.
Winners will also be invited to a special reception at the Five Points West Library and receive an Amazon gift card and a set of 25 of their bookmarks. Pick up forms for the contest at Five Points West Library.

Critical Health Issues for Women: Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope

Murder at the Library
Monday, April 4—Saturday, April 9 | All day from 9:00 a.m.—6:00 p.m.
A murder has been committed at the library! Come pick up your mystery packet, search the library for clues, and guess the identity of the murderer by Saturday, April 9.
Correct guesses will be entered in a prize drawing and there will be a wall of super sleuths. Stay tuned for daily hints if you get stuck on a clue!
Springville Road Library Tiny Art Show
Monday, April 4—Friday, April 15 | Pick up your art kit while supplies last
This Tiny Art Show is for children ages 12 and under! Stop by the Springville Road Library to pick up your tiny art kit between Monday, April 4—Friday, April 15 while supplies last. Kits include a tiny canvas, paintbrush, paint, and a color mixing chart.
Patrons can use the paint provided or their own, and mixed media may be used as long as it fits on the canvas. Return your art and the entry form by Monday, April 25 to be entered in the show.
Honor ROY G BIV Day
Wednesday, April 6 | All day from 9:00 a.m.—6:00 p.m.
Who is ROY G BIV? Pick a color of the rainbow and dress up in that color. Children can also submit their own bookmark designs for the bookmark contest.
The winning design will be made into a bookmark that will be passed out at Springville Road Library this summer!
Celebrate Your Favorite Book Character!
Thursday, April 7 | All day from 9:00 a.m.—6:00 p.m.
Library staff will dress up as their favorite book character—patrons can, too! Children will also get to play rounds at the Library Mini Golf course.
Love Your Library Day
Friday, April 8 | All day from 9:00 a.m.—6:00 p.m.
Show your love for the library on Friday by wearing the color red and your goofiest socks! Children can participate in a library obstacle course—everyone is a winner!

Continue Your Education with the UAB Educational Opportunity Center

Representatives from the UAB Educational Opportunity Center will be at Woodlawn Library providing information about adults can continue their education.
The EOC's services include GED assistance; college and trade school application help; applying for financial aid and scholarships; tutoring and mentoring; and more! Plus, their services are free to eligible participants! Stop by and have your questions answered.
