The theme for Earth Day 2022 is "Invest in our planet." Join the Birmingham Public Library (BPL) for some zero-waste and inventive programs recycling paper.
You can invest in our planet by learning more about environmental issues and ways to help.
Check out books from any member of the Jefferson County Library Cooperative (JCLC), including all BPL locations, on recycling, zero waste, climate change, and other eco-friendly topics to learn more.

Learn to Mend Your Clothes
Friday, April 8 | Starts at 12:00 p.m.
Textile waste is a growing problem around the world. Take care of the clothes you already have by learning how to mend. We'll sew up rips, patch holes, and make our clothes as good as new!

Newspaper Origami Boxes Grab and Go Kits
Wednesday, April 13 | All day during business hours, 9:00 a.m.—6:00 p.m.
Don't waste money buying new storage containers. Instead, you can make origami boxes by repurposing newspapers. Try using them to finally conquer your junk drawer!
Learn to Wrap Gifts with Zero Waste
Friday, April 22 | Starts at 12:00 p.m.
Did you know that most gift wrap isn't recyclable? Switch to using these zero waste gift wrapping techniques and you'll help divert tons of waste from landfills.

Make-A-Basket

This program creates an opportunity for kids and families to work together to create a paper basket.
