Bards & Brews Open Mic Night Happening At The Central Library Friday, May 6

Birmingham, Ala.—Bards & Brews is holding their next Open Mic Night at the Central Library on Friday, May 6. Nathifa Dance Company and Outreach, an African drumming and dance company, will open the night with a special performance and then poets will take the stage to share original spoken word poetry. 

Open Mic Night is the perfect night to express yourself and break into the spoken word arts scene in Birmingham. 

This event is open for anyone to perform spoken word, ranging from poetry to short stories and monologues and similar arts. Join the Central Library on Friday, May 6, to hear new and familiar artists share engaging and riveting stories in poetic form. 

Bards and Brews is sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts. The Friends Foundation of the Birmingham Public Library received a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts in the fall of 2021.

Nathifa Dance Company and Outreach was established in 1992 to fill a space for African dance and drumming in Birmingham. They became a non-profit in 2016 to provide programs for schools and individuals at affordable prices. Nathifa Dance Company offers classes in West African dance, traditional praise dance, and cowbell, djembe, and doun-doun drums.

  • Details: Join Bards & Brews on Friday, May 6, for an Open Mic Night from 6:00—8:00 p.m. and a special performance by Nathifa Dance Company. Hear original spoken word poetry live from talented performers. Nathifa Dance Company and Outreach was established to connect African Americans to their heritage through dance and drumming workshops. This event is free and open to the public to attend and perform. Must be 21+ with proof of I.D. to drink.
