Why I Love My Library: Wendi Baldwin, Titusville Branch Patron

Titusville Library Branch Manager Reba Williams with patron Wendi Baldwin.

The Birmingham Public Library is more than a place to check out books, DVDs, and music. Our 18 libraries across the City of Birmingham provide free access to Wi-Fi and use of public computers, quality programming such as our nationally recognized monthly Bards & Brews spoken word poetry/craft beer events, book talks and Local Authors Expo, and more.

To showcase lives touched by our libraries, BPL's PR Department is reviving a series of "Why I Love My Library" patron testimonials on people who benefit from our programs and services.

Today's spotlight is on Birmingham's Wendi Baldwin, a longtime BPL patron who says Titusville Library's monthly give-away of free food boxes, diapers, and recent back-to-school resource fair has helped her family cope with her job loss related to COVID-19.

BPL: Briefly introduce yourself and how long you have been a patron of BPL.

Wendi: I have been a patron of the library since Age 6. I have been utilizing Titusville Branch since 2007.

BPL: What inspired you to write that glowing review of how Titusville Library has benefited your family?

Wendi: It's the overall vibe you feel when you enter the door. I'm most times greeted by name. That's an awesome feeling of all the patrons, someone remembers me.

BPL: What do you love most about Titusville Library?

Wendi: Any service I need, like using the fax or printer, someone is always ready to assist. Since Mrs. (Reba) Williams has become Head Librarian at Titusville, she has provided numerous resources for the community. Several organizations have provided coats, school supplies, and recently health fairs.

Monthly you can receive diapers and free food. I have not worked since December 2020 due to Covid.  Mrs. Williams has really touched my family.

BPL: Why do you feel libraries are a vital part of Birmingham?

Wendi: Not every family can afford Internet or provide books for their kids. All of this can be found here along with snacks and a safe environment. It is so important for the city and public to support our libraries. They are a necessity for the community.
