  • When: Friday, March 22, 2024 | 6:30–8:30 p.m.
  • Where: Central Library | 2100 Park Place, Birmingham, AL 35203
  • Details: Loud at the Library is throwing its third punk show, featuring Apprehend, Domesticatrix, and Terminal Man. This show is free, all-ages, and open to the public. Bring ear plugs if you would like a pair. The featured food truck of the night is Uncle G's Pizza, who will sell their pizza in the Central Library parking lot. Birmingham Public Library's Tree of Knowledge shirts will be available that night for a donation of $20.00 or more. This show is sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts.

The Power-Violence/Hardcore Punk quartet Terminal Man is opening the show. who most recently released a highly praised demo in 2023. Domesticatrix follows by bringing their heavy industrial sound to the library halls. Closing out the night is hardcore band Apprehend, continuing their streak of non-traditional show venues (they previously played at a gas station and a recently closed coffee shop). Check out the bands ahead of the show:

This show is free, all-ages, and open to the public. Ear plugs are not provided at the show. The front glass doors will be locked, so please enter from our parking lot entrance. Just look for Uncle G's Pizza in the Central Library parking lot, selling thick, square pan pizzas.

Their menu features creative takes on Detroit style pizza and garlic bread—offering whipped ricotta, parmesan garlic cream sauces, and the classics—all with a cup of red sauce on the side. They also offer small plates, like a meatball appetizer or a salad, and cinnamon rolls for dessert. You can get any pie made gluten free, dairy free, or vegan as long as it does not have the ricotta or mozzarella.

Uncle G's Pizza sells whole pies and slices of their Detroit style pizza and 10" round thin crust ones. Whole pies are 9x9" and typically feed two to three people, and slices are a ¼ of a whole pie (and can still satisfy an appetite).

Make sure to bring cash or a card to get some food or to get one of the Birmingham Public Library's new t-shirts. Local print maker and library employee Parker Evans studied the Ezra Winter murals in the Research Library and chose one of Winter's motifs on the ceiling joists to create the design for the shirt.

Although the motifs are not formally titled, the design Parker chose seems to be "the tree of knowledge, with the bowl of fire symbolizing the spark of creativity and curiosity." Shirts will be available at the show at the Circulation Desk for a charitable donation of $20.00 or more to the library; you can also stop by the Central Circulation Desk during our regular hours of operation to get a shirt in sizes Small to 3XL.

This is the Birmingham Public Library's third punk show, which first debuted in January 2023 and held its second show on Friday, October 13. Both shows brought out large crowds with 300+ patrons attending.
