BPL Local Authors Reading Challenge: DeCorey Hale

DeCorey Hale, author of Ebenezer The Sneezer

When his oldest child, Nylah, was a toddler, Sylacauga native DeCorey Hale made up a story character to entertain her. The book instilled in his daughter at a young age the joy of reading.

Two years later in April 2017, Hale turned those made up stories into his first book, “Ebenezer the Sneezer.” Hale, who participated in the Birmingham Public Library Local Authors Expo last year, has accepted the BPL Local Authors Online Reading Challenge.

Ebenezer The Sneezer is a short rhyming book focusing on an old man named Ebenezer. Readers get a peek into his day as he sneezes on absolutely everything! While fun and captivating, the book teaches sight words, adjectives and colors. But the real question is will Ebenezer ever stop sneezing? Stay tuned and read the book to find out!

About the author
DeCorey Hale was born in Sylacauga, just south of Birmingham to the late Donald and Delores Hale. After graduating from Sylacauga High School, he attended Alabama State University, majoring in sales and marketing.

In 2014, Hale began blogging and freelancing for magazines such as Hip Hop Album Debate, Xkluziv, and London LeBlanc, eventually becoming a regular writer for the Huffington Post.

In addition to upcoming writing projects, Hale is heavily involved in his local community assisting fellow up-and-coming entrepreneurs. He is active in charity work and along with a small circle of friends is forming a nonprofit to uplift their communities in Sylacauga. Hale is also a candidate for District 3 on the Sylacauga City Council.

A multi-tasker, Hale says despite his hectic life, he still makes time for people close to him that need help and writing remains his first passion.

“I just want to make my own mark on the world and be the best person I can be,” Hale said.
