Celebrate Women's History Month throughout March with the Birmingham Public Library (BPL)! We are offering a variety of programs at several BPL locations as well as informative and engaging displays.

This year's theme is "Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories." Here are programs that the BPL is offering for Women's History Month 2023!

Club Create: Women's History Month Art Project

Our Club Create workshop for adults feature a new craft project each week with instruction and materials provided.

As a part of Forging Justice, commemorating the 60 years since the Birmingham Civil Rights Movement, the Central Library will have a women's history book display on the first floor. 

Bards & Brews Women's History Month Open Mic

Uptown Jazz Lounge | 22550-B 9th Ave N

The monthly spoken word poetry program is on the move to Uptown Jazz for March! Our featured poet this month is Blaque Diamond. Spoken word artists may share original works or stories focusing on women. This event is free and open to the public. You must be 18+ to enter, and 21+ to drink. Please bring proof of I.D. 

Winter Music Series: Westwood Irish Dance
Monday, March 13 | From 6:00–7:00 p.m.

Please join us at the Central Library to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and Woman's History Month with a performance by the young ladies from Westwood Irish Dance. After the performance, the performers will offer lessons to interested attendees. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, call 205-226-3690.

12 Months to Being Your Own CEO: A Woman's Place is CEO
Monday, March 27 | From 5:30–6:30 p.m.

Interested in starting your own business? Take the next stop to realizing your entrepreneurial dreams by attending these classes taught by local Birmingham attorney Neena Speer. These classes are free, and everyone is welcome to attend. Registration is required for each class. Women of the Movement

The North Birmingham Library will host a talk on the history of women's involvement in the Civil Rights Movement. Guest lecturer Charles Wood Ⅲ of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute will lead this discussion.

Women With Voices 
Friday, March 24 | Starts at 4:00 p.m.

In celebration of Women's History Month, the women of North Birmingham Regional Branch Library will use their voices with poetry and song to uplift, inspire, and celebrate the strength, courage, and fortitude of all women and the impact that they have had and continue to have on the world.

Drop by and show us how knowledgeable you are about famous women in history. If you get all the correct answers, you will be entered in a drawing for our grand prize!

The Mommy's Lounge Inspires Mom Support Group meets on the second and third Tuesday of each month. This group provides high quality advice for single moms in a judgement free zone that allows moms to connect with each other.

Visit the library to find out how you can get resources, such as diapers, toiletries, school supplies, and clothes. Requirements are a valid photo ID, birth certificate for each child, and the recipient must be a single mother.
