Adventure Begins at Wylam Branch Library: 2024 Summer Reading Spotlight

 


Looking for fun things to do this summer? The Birmingham Public Library is hosting 256 free programs, activities and events during June and July for patrons of all ages as part of BPL's 2024 Summer Reading: Adventure Begins at Your Library. 


 BPL is spotlighting each of our library's programs this summer. Today's spotlight is on Wylam Branch Library. Wylam Branch is hosting 11 programs, nine for youth and two for adults. 

 Here a few programs for kids and adults recommended by Wylam Branch Manager Selina Johnson:

Youth:

Vulcan will appear at Wylam Branch Library's A Birmingham Storytime Adventure Summer Reading program this Thursday, June 13, at 10:00 a.m. Wylam Branch is at 4300 7th Avenue Wylam

A Birmingham Storytime Adventure, Thursday, June 13, 10:00 a.m.

Kids ages Pre-K through 2nd grade will participate in an interactive story time that includes an appearance by the Vulcan Mascot, V. The book being spotlighted, Right Here in Birmingham, discusses early Birmingham mining and industrial history from the perspective of a child living in a company town.  See more in the BPL catalog about this book and others talking about the Vulcan statue in Birmingham by clicking here. 



Great Adventures in Science, (McWane Center presentation), Tuesday, July 2, 10:00 a.m.

The adventure begins! McWane Center invites readres of all ages to journey through the greatest stories of yesterday and today. During our journey, we will face perils real and fantastical. We'll trek across hazadous terrain, learn how to take a flight high above the earth with rockets and balloons, dive into an active volcano, and embark on further odysseys at the library!



Live HealthSmart Alabama, Tuesday, July 16, 10:00 a.m. 

To make good decisions about your health, you need the facts first. The Live HealthSmart Alabama team will provide the audience with easy-to-understand information that guides you through the building blocks of healthy living.

Mr. and Mrs. Winfield & Elinor Burks, pictured above at another craft program, will teach patrons how to make butter during Food Craft: Burks Butter at Wylam Branch Library at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5. 

Adults 

TGIF Food Craft; Burks Butter , Friday, July 5, 10:00 a.m.

This adult program, held on the first Fridays this summer, kicked off last Friday, June 7, as patrons made Juneteenth Keychains.  At 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5, join Mr. and Mrs. Winfield Burks at Wylam Branch for TGIF Food Craft: Burks Butter. Registration is not required, but greatly appreciated.
