Central Library Monumental Stairs Project Entering Fourth Week
Pardon our progress as the Central Library Monumental Stairs Project is in its fourth week.
Contractor Taylor & Miree began tearing down the escalators from the 1st through the 4th floors of the Central Library East Building on September 16 and is expected to complete construction of a staircase replacing the escalators by February 2020.The project was designed by Birmingham architect Creig Hoskins.
So far, the escalator parts have been cut up on the first floor and a tube has been installed on the fourth floor allowing dust to be pumped out of the building during construction.
The BPL Friends Bookstore remains open during construction on the first floor of the East Building.
BPL staff and services have been temporarily relocated to the adjacent Linn-Henley Research Library.
