Birmingham Public Library employees gathered at Boutwell Auditorium October 24 for 2019 BPL Staff Day, an annual gathering of workers from our 19 libraries set aside for training workshops, celebration of accomplishments of the past year, and fellowship.

The day kicked off with a powerful, inspiring speech by Timothy Alexander, author of Ever Faithful, Ever Loyal: The Timothy Alexander Story. Alexander talked about the important role librarians played as he relearned how to read after a 2006 car accident caused brain injury and left him paralyzed. Alexander gave a speech at the Central Library July 20 as part of the BPL Local Author Lecture series.
