The Forbidden Room (2015) Dir. by Guy Maddin

Taking inspirations from lost films of the silent era, The Forbidden Room will lead you from the bottom of the sea in a sinking submarine to a bathroom where an older man shows you the basics of how to take a bath. While some might find the film confusing, I would advise to let the film wash over you and enjoy the ride. You don't need to know how you got here—just enjoy the sights and sounds of what's ahead.

Waiting for Guffman (1997) Dir. by Christopher Guest

What happens is a down and out off-off-off-off-Broadway writer is given the reigns to run Blaine, Missouri's Sesquicentennial musical. What follows is a "documentary" about the process from the same people that gave you Spinal Tap, Best in Show, and Schitt's Creek. This is a film that I come back to frequently. It's not every day you have a song called "Stool Boom" stuck in your head.

"There's a saying in Missouri, 'if you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes.' In Blaine, with hard work, I think we can get that down to three or four minutes."
