2023 Summer Reading Spotlight: Wylam Branch Library

Have you ever wanted to learn American sign language

Then drop by the Wylam Branch Library, 4300 7th Avenue Wylam, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, for "American Sign Language: Learn the Basics." 

 This free workshop is among around nearly 250 free programs and activities for patrons of all ages taking place during June and July at library locations across the city as part of the 2023 Birmingham Public Library Summer Reading. 

 If you're a beginner interested in learning to sign, this American Sign Language basics session is for you. It covers the alphabet, signing basic sentences, finger spelling, the days of the week, and more.

 Wanna learn yoga? Wylam Branch has something for you as well. Bridgette Wimbleduff will teach Chair Yoga at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6. Join Wylam for an hour of relaxation and meditation with yoga specialist Ms. Bridgette. This chair yoga programs is prefect for beginners. 


Here are some more programs happening at Wylam Library this summer as part of Summer Reading: 

You Matter! Monday, June 12, 10:00 a.m. Join Jan the Science Lady for an exciting and engaging exploration of the states of matter! This fizzing, bubbling, exploding show will be full of cool chemical reactions. All together now for some simple science fun! 

McWane Science Center Partners in Science – Thursday, June 29, 10:00 a.m. Science needs a lot of people working together to tackle everything from fighting pandemics to operating a space station. See how scientists have solved these problems, with a little help from their friends. 

 Creativity StARTS Here – Tuesday, July 11, 10:00 a.m. Nurture your creativity through an art ctivity that will allow you to make your next masterpiece! 

 Dance Discovery – Tuesday, July 18, 10:00 a.m. The Alabama Ballet provides a look inside the daily life of a professional ballet dancer from the ballet technique to costumes and pointe shoes. The audience will enjoy participating in fun exercises that challenge coordination. The program concludes with a performance by Alabama Ballet Company dancers.
