Join the Birmingham Public Library (BPL) for Adventure Begins at Your Library this summer. Since Wednesday, May 1, patrons can register for Summer Reading 2024 at any BPL location and be entered into a raffle for a grand prize and win smaller prizes throughout the summer for completing our B-I-N-G-O cards!

You can also participate in special summer programs, like these at the Powderly Branch Library—the second library to be featured in our Summer Reading Spotlight. 

We will highlight different libraries and their programs throughout the summer on our blog. You can find more Summer Reading 2024 programs on the BPL's website.

Powderly's special summer programs begin as early as Tuesday, June 4, so add these to your calendar so you don't miss out!

All Ages Programs 

Knot Your Average Adventure
Tuesday, July 16 | Starts at 11:00 a.m.

Stop by the library to challenge your knot making skills. From sailing to rock climbing, knots are an integral part of any adventure. Instructions will be provided on making various knots in different stations. You can even try your hand at specific knot making puzzles! Prizes are awarded to the knot making champion!

Youth Programs

Campfire Tales (Storytime)
Tuesday, June 4 | Starts at 10:00 a.m.

Come gather round the campfire to tale fun tales of adventure and excitement around the Powderly campfire! Stories full of big adventures for little folks.

Constellation Jars: The Cosmos in Your Hands
Thursday, July 11 | Starts at 11:00 a.m.

In this program, we put the constellations in a jar for you to look at any time you want. It is like holding the Cosmos in your hands or more like in a jar! Supplies are limited so please sign up.

Tween & Teen Programs

Adventure Comics
Wednesday, June 12 | Starts at 11:00 a.m.

Welcome to a world of Adventure! Come explore and discuss stories of action and adventure within the graphic novel format. No capes or cowls but loads of fun! The program will include a brief discussion followed by a comic book inspired activity.

Gymnastic Sport Silhouette on Canvas
Thursday, June 20 | Starts at 11:00 a.m.

Tweens/Teens can create a silhouette on canvas of their favorite sport in support of the 2024 Olympics in Paris this summer. Supplies are limited, so please sign up; call 205-925-6178 to register. 

Adult Programs

Make It! Series: Mondrian Flowers Art Project
Tuesday, June 11 | Starts at 11:00 a.m.

Participants can recreate art by the creator of geometric abstraction and cubism pieces known as Piet Mondrian.
