Magic, Dinosaurs and Creative Fun Take Center Stage at East Lake Branch Library

magical performances and dinosaur adventures to hands-on science, family movies
and creative fiber arts, East Lake Branch Library offers something for every
age during Birmingham Public Library's 2026 Summer Reading Program,
"Unearth a Story."
Whether
you're looking for fun activities for children, unique hobbies for adults or
opportunities to learn something new, East Lake Branch Library has an exciting
lineup of free programs throughout June and July.

look at some of this summer's featured programs.
🎩 A Magical Start to Summer
Wednesday,
June 17 | 10–11 a.m.
Kick off
Summer Reading with internationally known magician Brian Reaves, whose amazing
illusions, comedy and audience participation promise fun for the entire family.
🦖 Dinosaur Adventures for Young
Explorers
This
summer's "Unearth a Story" theme comes to life through a variety of
dinosaur-inspired programs designed especially for children.
June 16
& 26; July 14 | 10–11:30 a.m.
Young
artists can create fun dinosaur-themed crafts while exploring the prehistoric
world through hands-on activities.
Dino
Storytime
June 23
& July 7 | 10–11 a.m.
Children
will enjoy dinosaur stories, songs and plenty of roaring fun during these
interactive storytimes.
Unearth
a Story with McWane Science Center
Wednesday,
June 24 | 10–11 a.m.
McWane
Science Center brings dinosaurs to life through exciting demonstrations and
hands-on science activities that encourage curiosity and discovery.
🎬 Dino Summer Movies
Every
Thursday in June and July
10
a.m.–Noon
Escape the
summer heat with family-friendly dinosaur movies every Thursday. Popcorn and
refreshments are provided, making it the perfect weekly outing for families.
🧶 Learn a New Creative Skill
Fiber
Friday
June 26
& July 24 | 10 a.m.–Noon
Interested
in sewing, knitting or fiber arts? Fiber Friday offers participants the
opportunity to learn new techniques, improve existing skills and connect with
fellow crafters in a welcoming environment.
🚴 A Unique Tour de France Challenge
Tour de
Lac Est: Board Gaming the Tour de France
Mondays,
July 6, 13, 20 & 27 | 2–4 p.m.
Cycling
fans and board game enthusiasts can experience the excitement of the Tour de
France through the award-winning strategy game Flamme Rouge.
Participants will race through recreated stages of this year's Tour while
competing for the coveted Yellow Jersey. Attendance at all four sessions is
encouraged for the full experience.
