Talent Shows, Foam Parties and Dino Adventures Make Tuesday Nights the Place to Be at Avondale Library This Summer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Looking for free family fun this summer? Make Tuesday nights at Avondale Regional Library part of your calendar.

From an Avondale's Got Talent showcase featuring some of the community's most talented young performers to a giant Foam & Fossils celebration filled with billions of bubbles, music, beach balls and cool treats, Tuesday Family Nights are among the highlights of Birmingham Public Library's 2026 Summer Reading Program.

Those signature evenings are just part of a summer packed with dinosaur-themed science, creative art projects, engaging storytimes, LEGO challenges, live theater, and hands-on STEAM activities designed to spark imagination and keep children, teens and families learning all summer long.

Tuesday Family Nights (Signature Events)

Family Night: Jurassic Bark!
Tuesday, June 16 | 6–7 p.m.
Kick off Family Night with Michelle's Magical Poodles as trained dogs perform tricks while delivering laughs and lessons in an interactive show for all ages.

Family Night: Avondale's Got Talent!
Tuesday, June 30 | 6–7 p.m.
The popular Avondale talent show returns as children take center stage to sing, dance, perform magic, tell jokes and showcase their talents before a supportive hometown audience. Register to perform or cheer on the performers.

Family Night: Foam & Fossils!
Tuesday, July 14 | 6–7 p.m.
Celebrate the end of Summer Reading with one of the library's biggest parties of the year. Enjoy billions of micro-bubbles, music, beach balls, cool treats and dinosaur-sized fun during this outdoor foam party. Wear play clothes, bring a towel and get ready to make memories. Registration is required.

Storytime & Early Learning

Time for Tales with Ms. Cas
June 18, July 2 & July 9 | 10:30–11:30 a.m.
Stories, songs and early literacy activities for young children and caregivers. Registration required.

Pop-in-Play (PiP)
June 16, June 30 & July 7 | 10:30–11:30 a.m.
Hands-on playtime that encourages exploration, creativity and social interaction.

Wacky Wednesdays: Dinosaur Discovery

June 17 — Dino-Mite Bingo!
A prehistoric twist on Bingo with prizes and plenty of fun.

June 24 — Dinosaurs, Reactions & Explosions, Oh My!
The Science Lady returns with fossils, dinosaurs and exciting science demonstrations—including safe explosions.

July 1 — Brickosaurus!
Build dinosaur-inspired LEGO creations while learning engineering concepts.

July 8 — Earth, Layer by Layer!
Explore fossils, rocks and the layers beneath our feet through interactive activities.

Paint Your Own "Dino-Mite" Bookends

Glow-asaurus Signs: Enter the Lumi-naceous Period!

Create glowing LED dinosaur-themed signs.

Apex Appetizers: A No-Bake Dino Feast

Prepare fun dinosaur-themed snacks while learning simple kitchen skills.

Roar on the Stage

Children explore storytelling and theater through fun performance activities.

Creative hands-on art and craft projects for young makers.

Birmingham Children's Theatre Presents The Jungle Book
Saturday, July 18 | 10:30–11:30 a.m.
Enjoy a free live performance featuring Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera and Shere Khan in Birmingham Children's Theatre's exciting adaptation of the beloved classic.
