Birmingham Public Library's 2026 Summer Reading Program, "Unearth a
Story," Powderly Branch is offering a series of hands-on programs designed

interactive science adventures and fossil explorations to theatrical
storytelling experiences, these free programs invite children and families to

Red
Mountain Theatre: Unearth a Story
Wednesday,
June 17 | 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Step into the spotlight with teaching artists from Red Mountain Theatre.
Participants will explore storytelling through acting, movement, imagination,
and creative expression while building confidence and collaboration skills in a
fun, interactive environment.
Unearth
a Story with McWane Science Center
Thursday,
June 18 | 11 a.m. – Noon
Dig into discovery with educators from McWane Science Center. Children will
explore dinosaurs, rocks, soil, local history, crafts, games, and story time
while uncovering fascinating stories hidden beneath the surface.

Reactions and Explosions, Oh My!

June 22 | 10 – 11 a.m.
Get ready for an action-packed science experience with Dynamic Education
Adventures. This high-energy program combines dinosaurs, chemistry
demonstrations, hands-on learning, and exciting experiments that make science
both educational and entertaining for young learners.

A second opportunity to join Red Mountain Theatre for an engaging exploration
of storytelling, performance, and creativity through interactive theater
activities.

Dig It! Fossils, Artifacts and Magic!
Friday,
June 26 | 10 – 11 a.m.
Magician Larry performs a lively blend of magic, puppetry, books, and
storytelling that introduces children to archaeology, paleontology, and the
wonders of the ancient world. This entertaining program encourages curiosity,
creativity, and a love of reading.
Dino
Dig
Tuesday,
June 30 | 10 – 11 a.m.
Young paleontologists can roll up their sleeves and participate in an outdoor
dinosaur excavation with The Science Lady. Participants will use tools to
carefully dig through "dino eggs" and uncover prehistoric surprises
while learning about fossils and scientific discovery.
