Birmingham Children's Theatre Brings Free Performances of "The Jungle Book" to Birmingham Public Library This Summer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Birmingham Children's Theatre is partnering with Birmingham Public Library (BPL) to stage a free, family-friendly production of “The Jungle Book” this summer.

Adapted by Greg Banks from the beloved tales of Rudyard Kipling and directed by Irealle Sylvas, the show runs Saturdays at 3:30 p.m. from June 20 through July 25, 2026 at three BPL locations across Birmingham.  All performances are free and open to the public, but space is limited so audiences need to reserve their spot in advance.

“The Jungle Book” performance schedule at Birmingham Public Library is as follows:

• Saturday, June 20, 10:30 a.m. — Central Library, 2100 Park Place

• Saturday, June 27, 10:30 a.m. — Five Points West Regional Library, 4812 Avenue W

• Saturday, July 11, 10:30 a.m. — Springville Road Regional Library, 1224 Old Springville Road

• Saturday, July 18, 10:30 a.m. — Avondale Regional Library, 509 South 40th St.

• Saturday, July 25, 10:30 a.m. — Central Library, 2100 Park Place

The production follows Mowgli, a curious kid who finds himself lost deep in the jungle, on a fast-paced adventure through Rudyard Kipling’s classic tales. Along the way, Mowgli befriends the lovable Baloo the Bear and the wise Bagheera the Panther, outwits a scheming gang of monkeys, and comes face-to-face with the fierce tiger Shere Khan.

It's a thrilling, fun-filled retelling that's perfect for young adventurers and their families.

According to Birmingham Children's Theatre, rehearsals for the production began May 26 as cast members prepared to bring the classic tale from page to stage for audiences across Birmingham.

Through performances, educational programs and community outreach, the organization serves thousands of children and families annually throughout Alabama and the Southeast.
