Dinosaurs, Dancing and Delicious Discoveries Fill the Summer at Five Points
West
BIRMINGHAM,
Ala. — Looking
for a place where children can bring their favorite dolls to the library,
budding artists can create prehistoric pottery, young performers can grab the
microphone and rap, and adults can stay active through chair aerobics, yoga and
line dancing? You'll find all that—and free cooking demonstrations, creative
art classes and much more this summer at Five Points West Regional Library.
As part of
Birmingham Public Library's 2026 Summer Reading Program, "Unearth a
Story," Five Points West Regional Library is offering an exciting mix of
hands-on activities for every generation. From dinosaur-themed crafts and STEM
adventures to wellness classes, culinary demonstrations, live theatre and
unique art experiences like the popular Foil It Up! Canvas Art Class, there's
something new to discover nearly every week.

Children
& Family Fun
🦖 Dino Bead Blast
Tuesday, June 16 | 2–3 p.m.
Children
can create their own dinosaur-themed bracelets while learning fascinating facts
about prehistoric creatures. This hands-on craft encourages creativity while
introducing young learners to the world of dinosaurs. Families are welcome.
Registration is recommended.
💖 All Dolled Up!
Thursday, June 18 | 2:30–3:30 p.m.
Thursday, July 9 | 2:30–3:30 p.m.
Bring your
favorite doll for an afternoon filled with crafts, games and imaginative fun.
Each session features a different doll-themed activity, making every visit a
new adventure. Space is limited.
🎭 Birmingham Children's Theatre
Presents "The Jungle Book"
Saturday, June 27 | 10:30–11:30 a.m.
Mowgli,
Baloo, Bagheera and Shere Khan come to life in this energetic adaptation of
Rudyard Kipling's classic tale. Free tickets are available through Birmingham
Children's Theatre.
🦕 STEAM Club: LEGO Bird
Builders
Monday, June 29 | 3–4 p.m.
Did you
know birds are living dinosaurs? Young builders will use LEGO bricks to design
birds while learning about the fascinating connection between modern birds and
prehistoric dinosaurs.
🍪 Cookie Excavation
Tuesday, July 7 | 2–3 p.m.
Become a
junior archaeologist by excavating chocolate chips from cookies while learning
about real archaeological techniques. Registration recommended.
🏺 Prehistoric Pot Painting
Tuesday, July 14 | 2–3 p.m.
Kids can
decorate their own pots using dinosaur stencils and ancient-inspired symbols
while discovering how art connects us to the past.
🎤 Rap It Up!
Tuesday, July 21 | 3–4 p.m.
Future
performers can step up to the microphone to rap, perform spoken word or share
original poetry in a supportive, fun environment that encourages creativity and
confidence.

💃 Line Dancing with Mary Webb
Mondays, June 15, July 6 and July 20 | 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Learn new
dance steps, enjoy great music and get moving in these fun, beginner-friendly
line dancing sessions.
💪 Chair Aerobics with Ms. Myra

Wednesdays, June 17, July 1 and July 15 | 10:30–11:30 a.m.
Boost your
fitness with low-impact exercises designed to improve strength, flexibility and
