2026 BPL Summer Reading Spotlight: Discover Adventure, Creativity and Community at Springville Road Regional Library

Birmingham, Ala. - This summer, Springville Road Regional Branch Library is transforming learning into an adventure through a wide variety of free programs designed to help patrons "Unearth a Story" while sparking their curiosity this summer.

As part of Birmingham Public Library's 2026 Summer Reading Program, Springville Road Regional Library is offering engaging activities for all ages including creating candles, learning crochet, attending author events and enjoying live theater. From meeting a traveling goat and learning about farm life to family-friendly fun with McWane Science Center, there is something for everyone to discover this summer.

Springville Road Library Summer Reading Programs at a Glance

Suni-Bear Farms

Saturday, June 13 | 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Meet local farmers and their traveling goat, Jingles, while learning about agriculture, farm animals and rural life. Registration is required and space is limited.

Crafts, Conversation and Community

June 15, June 22 and July 6, July 20 | 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Adults can enjoy creative crafting projects while building connections with others in the community. Projects include Dragon's Eggs, Dragon Coasters and Build-a-Dinosaur activities.

Preschool Lab

June 16 and July 14 | 10 – 11 a.m.

Young learners and their caregivers can explore hands-on STEM activities designed to encourage curiosity and discovery. July's session focuses on archaeology and paleontology through interactive learning stations.

Beyond Your Ordinary Book (BYOB) Club

Tuesday, June 16 | 2 – 3 p.m.

This unique book club allows participants to read, listen to or watch media related to a monthly theme and then share their selections with fellow participants. June's topic is historical fiction.

Storytime with Ms. Mollie

Wednesday, June 17 | 10 – 11 a.m.

Get ready to DINO-rock and DINO-roll as Ms. Mollie combines stories, music and dinosaur-themed fun in this family-friendly story time program.

Candle Creations

Wednesday, June 17 | 3 – 5 p.m.

Participants can create their own custom candles during this hands-on workshop. All materials are provided, but registration is required.

Pony Bead Lizard Keychain Craft

Wednesday, June 24 | 3 – 4 p.m.

Join us in making pony bead lizard key-chains to celebrate our modern dinosaur friends! All materials provided. This program is for tweens and teens.

Local Author Spotlight: Charles Smith

Wednesday, July 1 | 2 – 3 p.m.

In recognition of America's 250th birthday, local author Charles Smith will discuss his book The Alabama Connection and explore Alabama's ties to major historical events and national news stories.

Wheels on Wednesdays

July 8, July 15 and July 22 | 10 – 12 p.m.

Children and families can meet community helpers and get an up-close look at the vehicles they use every day. From emergency responders to public service professionals, these programs offer fun, educational experiences for all ages.

Chair Yoga

Wednesday, July 8 | 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Enjoy a gentle, low-impact exercise session designed to improve flexibility, balance and overall wellness. Sanovia Muhammad will guide participants through accessible yoga movements suitable for all fitness levels.

McWane Science Center at the Library

Thursday, July 9 | 10 – 11 a.m.

McWane Science Center educators will bring exciting science demonstrations and hands-on learning activities directly to the library for a morning of STEM exploration.

Tween Scene: Beginner Crochet Series

Thursdays, July 9-30 | 2 p.m.

Tweens in grades 5-8 can learn the fundamentals of crochet during this four-week workshop. Participants will build skills each week and learn how to create granny squares. Registration is required and space is limited.

Quilting

Friday, July 10 | 9:30 a.m. – Noon

Learn quilting techniques and create a quilt block in this hands-on crafting program. All materials are provided.

Birmingham Children's Theatre Presents The Jungle Book

Saturday, July 11 | 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Join Mowgli, Baloo and Bagheera for an excerpt of The Jungle Book presented by Birmingham Children's Theatre. This family-friendly production brings Rudyard Kipling's classic adventure to life through music, storytelling and theatrical fun.

Fiction Book Club

Tuesday, July 14 | 2 – 3 p.m.

July's pick is Culpability by Bruce Holsinger.

Dinosaur Escape Room

Wednesday, July 15 | 3 – 5 p.m.

Join us for a fun escape room adventure in a dinosaur park! All materials provided. This program is for tweens and teens.

 Dinosaurs & Doodles

Tuesday, July 21| 2 p.m.

Young patrons will use dinosaurs as inspiration as they go on an art adventure. All materials will be provided. Children under age 7 will need a parent partner.

Ask An Attorney

Monday, July 27 | 10 a.m.- 1 p.m.

Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham will offer free legal advice on civil legal matters. Drop in and meet with an attorney.
