Black Panther "Mama C" to Speak, Recite Poetry at Central Library on October 5
Join us in downtown Birmingham on Thursday, October 5, as the Birmingham Public Library hosts a visit with Black Panther "Mama C" Charlotte Hill O'Neal.
Beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the Central Library Youth Department Create205 Learning Lab on the Second Floor of the Central Library, Mama C will talk about her life journey as a Black Panther. Mama C will also read from her poetry books, including Homage. A Q&A session with youth will follow.
Mama C is visiting the Birmingham area on her annual "Heal the Community Tour." Hill O'Neal joined the Kansas City chapter of the Panthers when she was 18 years old and later married the chapter founder, Pete O'Neal.
They moved to Tanzania in 1972, when local authorities targeted Pete for his involvement as the chairperson of the Kansas City chapter of the Panthers.
Mama C now runs the United African Alliance Community Center (UAACC) with her husband in the Imbaseni village outside of Arusha city in Tanzania.
