Upcoming BPL Program Raises Awareness Of The Dangers Of Spreading Public Health Misinformation
On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, the Birmingham Public Library Central Library will host a program entitled The Infodemic Age—Addressing Health Information and Disinformation. The program presenter is Mrs. Brittaney Jenkins of Jenkins Public Health Consulting LLC.
Ms. Jenkins will explain the concept of infodemics, which is the rapid and widespread diffusion of an overabundance of information on a topic, and examine ways in which infodemics have had an adverse effect on the public's ability to adequately understand recent health related issues such as the Covid-19 pandemic.
Brittaney Jenkins is the founder and CEO of Jenkins Public Health Consulting LLC in Birmingham, AL. She has over ten years of experience working in the areas of public health education, advocacy, and consulting. Prior to coming to Birmingham, she served as Director of Community Outreach at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. She holds a B.S. degree in Public Health from Ball State University and is a Certified Health Education Specialist.
