Details: The 2023 BPL Local Authors Expo will showcase 30 Alabama authors, including many from metro Birmingham. It is free for attendees. The theme is "The Different Paths to Publish." Guest speakers are Vanessa Davis Griggs, bestselling Christian Fiction Author and Joi Miner, recently awarded the title of "America's Next Great Author."

Then make plans now to come to the 2023 Birmingham Public Library Local Authors Expo, taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. this Saturday, November 4 at the Central Library downtown. 

This year's theme is "The Different Paths to Publishing." Attendees will gain valuable advice from wo published authors - best-selling Christian Fiction Author Vanessa Davis Griggs and Joi Miner, recently awarded the title of "America's Next Great Author."

Author Vanessa Davis-Griggs, 2023 Local Authors Expo speaker




Known as "God's Cheerleader," Vanessa Davis Griggs is an author and motivational speaker who adores the power of words both written and spoken. At the end of 1996, the former BellSouth employee left 18 years of service stepping out on faith to pursue her purpose and passion--writing. Proving out Proverbs 18:16, A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men, she began her own company (Free To Soar) emphasizing the taking off of limits as she travels inspiring and encouraging others--both young and old--to take flight like an eagle and do the same.

Vanessa is the recipient of numerous recognitions including: 2010 Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition presented by Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr.; 1st Quarter 2009, Practicing What You Preach was named one of EDC's "On the Shoulders of Giants" Faith-based Books Best Book Award; June 2007 recipient of the Arts and Letters Award from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Birmingham Alumnae Chapter; the March 2006 recipient of The Greater Birmingham Millennium Section National Council of Negro Women Inspiration Award, 2004-2005 Jasper Outstanding Achievement Award.

Vanessa lives in Irondale, Ala., a suburb just east of Birmingham. She has written dozens of novels, including her latest releases are: Conversations Across Generations: Timeless Tales Told In Their Own Words (a DIY biography/autobiography book) and Money Cometh (a combo devotional/planner/journal).

Joi Miner, author and speaker at 2023 Local Authors Expo



Joi Miner, recently awarded the title of "America’s Next Great Author,"  is a mother of two and full-time Author-Preneur. For a decade, Joi has sustained herself and her family as an editor, freelance columnist, ghostwriter, graphic designer, performance poet, storyteller, sexual assault, domestic violence, and LGBTQ rights activist and workshop facilitator.​

Joi Miner lives in Birmingham and owns Poetic Advisory LLC, an independent publishing company.
She was featured by WVTM NBC 13 in June 2022 as a "Women Breaking Barriers" spotlight as an author creating LBGTQ representation in writing.
  
Her tagline, "My Life Is a Joi Miner Novel," was birthed from her life and the lives of her loved ones inspiring her characters and plotlines. Joi currently writes in the African-American Urban Fiction, Urban Paranormal, Lesbian Fiction and Lesbian Fiction Paranormal genres, and plans to branch out into more genres in the very near future. 

The author of 54 published works, with over 250 concepts yet to be written, she’s fully committed to her art. So committed that she published a book 6 weeks post-stroke, aneurysm rupture, and emergency neurosurgery in 2020. 

Writing is her passion, and she is a testament that you can turn your passion into a career.​ Zombies, hitwomen, mermaids, and businessmen of color, from both sides of the rainbow, fill her literary pot, seasoned with social commentary. Joi stands on the staples that representation matters, and it's a writer's duty to be transcriptionist of the issues plaguing our society at the time.
