Bill Pautler is wearing all white. He has a slight smile on his face. He looking directly ahead and past the camera.

Local author Bill Pautler's book Awakening to Ourselves hopes to help guide others on their own spiritual awakening. He will be at the 2022 Local Authors Expo this Saturday, November 5, 10:00 a.m.—2:00 p.m.

Hear more about Pautler's journey toward in enlightenment in his Q&A with the Birmingham Public Library.

BPL: Tell me about your book.

Pautler: My book is for the spiritual seeker. I have taken my 30+ years of spiritual seeking and spiritual experiences and tried to layout a simple non-religious methodology for attaining spiritual growth and awareness. I do this by laying out a core foundation of how our bodies in this world are built specifically for us to realize our divinity and to co-create with God. The second part of the book is made up of easy practical ways we can use awareness of our earthly journey to bring about enlightenment, love, and joy.

BPL: What inspired you to write your book(s)?

Pautler: My journey toward enlightenment seemed long and arduous. In looking back on it, it really was not [that] complicated. So, I wanted to write a book for the spiritual seeker that was simple and clear, so they could spend less time trying to figure it all out and more time working on themselves.

BPL: Who is your favorite author and why?

Pautler: David Hawkins because we have the same passion—to help people make progress on their spiritual journey.

BPL: What do you hope readers get out of your books?

Pautler: An awareness that we are all animated by The Divine and that our bodies and this world have been custom designed for us to understand our divinity and learn how to co-create the universe with God.

BPL: Any advice you would give for new authors or those desiring to become an author?

Pautler: The same thing Allan Watts said:

Advice? I don't have any advice. Stop aspiring and start writing. If you're writing, you're a writer...Write like you're clinging to the edge of a cliff, white knuckles, on your last breath, and you've got just one last thing to say...for God's sake, tell us something that will save us from ourselves...tell us your deepest, darkest secret, so we can wipe our brow and know that were not alone.

Copies of Awakening to Ourselves will be available for purchase at the Local Authors Expo this Saturday, November 5, at the Central Library, 10:00 a.m.—2:00 p.m.
