2022 Local Authors Spotlight: Saniyah Baker-Boatwright
Saniyah Baker-Boatwright |
The Birmingham Public Library Local Authors Expo is our way of introducing the public to local writers and providing useful information allowing them to boost sales of their books.
Meet Saniyah Baker-Boatwright, one of nearly 30 authors who will be at the Central Library downtown for the 2022 BPL Local Authors Expo between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. this Saturday, November 5.
In a Q&A with BPL, Baker-Boatwright introduces herself to readers and talks about her new book, "How to Keep a Strong Bond with Your Sister," co-written with Destinee Baker-Boatwright, and her 2019 book, "That Girl Who?"
BPL: Tell me about your books.
Baker-Boatwright: That Girl Who? is about a young girl who goes through many storms learning to live her life unapologetically. How to Keep a Strong Bond with Your Sister is about cultivating a bond with your sister, whether you're starting from scratch or mending the relationship.
BPL: What inspired you to write your books?
Baker-Boatwright: I was inspired to write my books because of the passion I have for writing. I wanted to break generational curses, and I love to help teenagers and young adults get balance in their life, letting them know they're not alone and they can get through anything life throws at them.
BPL: Who is your favorite author and why?
Baker-Boatwright: I have so many favorite authors it changes every time I read a good book. As of right now, I would say my favorite author would be Sarah Jakes Robert's because the way she breaks down her topic and conveys the message she's trying to get through to the reader.
BPL: What do you hope readers get out of your books?
Baker-Boatwright: I hope they get every life lesson they possibly can depict from my books and encouragement to keep working on themselves to reach a better version of them.
BPL: Any advice you would give for new authors or those desiring to become an author?
Baker-Boatwright: I would tell them to continue writing, finish up what they have and make a plan to publish it, and most importantly have fun!
